    IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Server

    ITSM server manages central storage system using embedded relational database. All processes existing in backup system operate on the base of information from ITSM base. Storage or reconstruction process is held according to so-called „Storage repository”, which is combination of HW resources used by server in a pointed configuration of the process. Such backup system creates large possibilities of solution definition and implementation adjusted to individual needs of each client.
    Additionaly, automatized processes of claims, collocation and copying of data minimize necessity of manual management of carriers and disk space.

    IBM Tivoli Storage Manager backup/archive client

    The task of ITSM Client is to communicate with ITSM server and send or download files. Depending on system platform there is a Client in version with orders line, graphic interface or WWW interface on the base of Java applet.

    Relevant advantage of ITSM Client is possibility of open files backup and so-called Subfile Backup which means backup of only changed extracts of a chosen file.
    In case of necessity data storage acceleration, there is a possibility of data sending via several server sessions. It is possible to optimize the use of network interfaces or storage equipment (i.e. tape drive) in that way. It is possible to use LAN-free backup option when there is a lot of data, meaning direct backup to tape library or disk storage omitting LAN.
    User interface is extremely intuitive and simple and even inexperienced user will be able to store or open its files.

    • Disaster Recovery Manager – module generating kits of carriers to put in a safe place and detailed plans of reconstruction in case of disaster

    ITSM has many modules such as:

    • Tivoli Data Protection for databases (Oracle, MS SQL Server)
    • Tivoli Data Protection for mail (MS Exchange, Lotus)
    • Tivoli Data Protection for ERP (SAP)
    • Module for backup of open files
    • Module for subfile backup of files (Subfile Backup)
    • Continuous Data Protection for Files. This module documents backup on work stations is easy for use and configuration, able to backup data into pointed space on local disk, network resource or to TSM server.
